Fiorael Therapy
Fiorael Therapy · Magoknaru

A one-to-one private studio near Magoknaru Station. Its signature programme combines French marine mineral therapy with ThermaWave, and the rooms are fully separated, so nothing interrupts you. When we wanted somewhere quiet to genuinely rest, this was the first place in Seoul that came to mind.

The rest of the ranking

Places 2–5 are hotel spas inside Seoul; 6–10 group together districts with a clear character of their own. Everything here is within Seoul.

02
The Shilla Seoul Club Spa
Jangchung-dong, Jung-gu · Hotel spa

Tucked quietly into the slopes of Namsan, this is the reference point for hotel spas in Seoul. The programmes are textbook, which makes it an easy first hotel spa.

Gwangjang-dong, Gwangjin-gu · Foot of Achasan

You can see the Han River and Achasan at once, so it barely feels like the city even though it is inside Seoul. Body relax programmes run 60 or 90 minutes, and the menu stretches from facial to body to bridal care.

06 — 10 · District Picks

The last five places are not individual venues but districts of Seoul. Each district differs clearly in what it specialises in, what it costs and how it feels, so deciding on a neighbourhood before a name tends to go better.

06
Hongdae & Yeonnam — Aroma
Mapo-gu · Aroma / oil focused

Guests are mostly in their twenties and thirties, so aroma and oil work dominates. Small, design-conscious studios cluster here and prices sit slightly below the Seoul average. Late closing hours are another trait of the area.

07
Itaewon & Hannam — Deep Tissue
Yongsan-gu · Deep tissue / firm pressure

With a high share of international guests, therapists here are used to working at firmer pressure. It is the easiest district to find English-speaking staff, and deep tissue and Thai styles outweigh Swedish.

08
Seongsu & Konkuk — Sports Recovery
Seongdong-gu & Gwangjin-gu · Sports / recovery

Gyms and CrossFit boxes fill the area, so post-training recovery programmes are well developed. Many places let you book targeted work on calves or hamstrings in 30–40 minute blocks.

09
Yeouido — Business Care
Yeongdeungpo-gu · Neck & shoulders

Demand here piles up at lunchtime and straight after work. Rather than a 60-minute full body, the common format is 40 minutes on neck, shoulders and back. Walking in is difficult, so book ahead.

10
Jamsil & Songpa — Couples
Songpa-gu · Couple rooms

It is a dense residential area, so it has more couple rooms taking two people at once than anywhere else in Seoul. In most cases the two of you can pick different programmes and still be treated in the same room.

Seoul by District

Every district has its own character

The same Swedish massage is not the same thing in Gangnam as it is in Magok. This much is worth knowing before you go.

Gangnam & Sinsa

GANGNAM · SINSA

By far the most options, and the facilities are strong. In exchange it draws crowds, weekend slots are the tightest in the city, and prices run highest.

Hongdae & Yeonnam

HONGDAE · YEONNAM

Strong on aroma and oil work, and open late. Plenty of small studios with good atmosphere, though room soundproofing varies a lot between them.

Magok & Gangseo

MAGOK · GANGSEO

Fewer venues, but the ones here concentrate on one-to-one private care. If the point is to rest quietly without interruption, this fits best.

Itaewon & Hannam

ITAEWON · HANNAM

Therapists here are used to firm pressure and deep tissue. It is the easiest district for finding English-speaking staff.

Seongsu & Konkuk

SEONGSU · KONKUK

Built around post-training recovery. Short, body-part specific sessions are common, which helps when time is short.

Yeouido

YEOUIDO

Office demand has produced well-developed neck and shoulder courses. Lunchtime and just-after-work slots are almost always full.

Jamsil & Songpa

JAMSIL · SONGPA

More couple rooms than anywhere else in Seoul. If you are booking for two at once, look here first.

Jongno & Gwanghwamun

JONGNO · GWANGHWAMUN

Heavily weighted towards hotel spas. It slots easily into a sightseeing day, so the share of overseas bookings is high.

Q&A

The questions we actually get

Just the things people ask before booking in Seoul.

So which one in Seoul is actually the best?
It depends what you are after. For choice and facilities, Gangnam; for quiet and privacy, Magok and Gangseo. Of the places we visited ourselves, Fiorael Therapy in Magoknaru was the best for private care.
Do prices differ much between districts?
They do. On a 60-minute basis Gangnam and Samseong-dong sit highest, with Hongdae, Yeonnam and Seongsu below that. Hotel spas belong in their own bracket, and even within one district, whether rooms are separated changes the price.
First time trying Swedish massage in Seoul — what should I know?
Start light on pressure. Oil is used, so many places work with underwear only — ask when booking and there will be no surprises. Choosing somewhere with one-to-one private rooms as standard makes a first visit far easier.
Is there really a difference in feel between Gangnam and Magok?
Clearly. Gangnam has so many venues that choosing is half the fun, but it is busy and slots are competitive. Magok has fewer venues, yet more of them focus on private care, which suits wanting to rest undisturbed.
What is the difference between oil massage and aroma massage?
Oil massage is Swedish technique with oil added; aroma massage layers the scent and properties of essential oils on top of that. If you only want muscles worked, oil massage; if you want scent-led relaxation too, aroma massage tends to satisfy more.
Are there places couples can go together?
Yes, though not everywhere, so check for a couple room before booking. In Seoul, Jamsil and Songpa have the most, and at many of them you can each pick a different programme and still be treated in the same room at the same time.
How do bookings usually work?
Mostly by phone or KakaoTalk. Fiorael Therapy, our number one, also takes online bookings at thefiorael.com. Popular places fill up fast at weekends, so booking a few days ahead is safer.
